Work Packages

Lead Beneficiary: CTAQUA

WP1:

Sourcing of biomass from circular processes and sustainable cultivation

Objectives
  • To sustainably source marine biomass (crustacean residues and seaweed) for WP2.
  • To evaluate the impact of storage and handling conditions on biomass composition, yield, and quality.
  • To analyze regulatory and administrative hurdles (including safety, waste management, and Nagoya Protocol) for biomass sourcing.
  • To establish reliable and stable biomass supply chains until Month 30 of the project.

Lead Beneficiary: Fraunhofer

WP3:

Validation of food and feed ingredients building blocks in targeted market application

Objectives

  • To establish advanced, sustainable biorefinery processes to extract high-quality ingredients from marine biomass.
  • To implement a zero-waste cascade approach that fully utilizes all by-products and maximizes biomass valorization.
  • To enhance efficiency and optimize parameters of innovative extraction technologies.
  • To produce high-quality ingredients for WP3, scaling the processes from lab to pilot scale.
  • To ensure the entire process incorporates Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles.

Lead Beneficiary: SDU

WP5:

Environmental, social, and economic assessment including SSbD approach

Lead Beneficiary: UNICAM
